What are the hardest three years of a bassist's life?

Second Grade

Poor Ryan, he didn't do anything to deserve that.

Welcome, beautiful people, to the Standing Waves Blog: Volume Two. Don't worry, I'll run out of jokes soon - there's only three of us... for now. We have one of the promised feature's in this week's blog, but first, this weeks activity...

At this weeks rehearsals we had the pleasure of meeting Sam, a potential lead guitarist. It was good to meet him and I'm sure our paths will cross again in the near future. It was also a good opportunity to iron out some creases before recording with Tim.

We recorded at SSR in Manchester, in their Spirit Studio (its amazeballs). The track we chose to do is Remain, and did a complete live recording. Its being mixed, so nothing to show you all just yet in terms of a single, however we will let you know as soon as its ready.

Ryan has kindly volunteered to do the very first SW Blog Q&A!

I'd love to have a little jingle to throw in here, I'll have to get onto a production team about that...

How long have you been playing bass?

- I've been playing bass for about 8-9 years due to my terrible guitar playing. Everyone can play bass but only bad guitarists play it well. That was the advice I was told as someone handed me the bass guitar.

Can you play any other instruments?

- Guitar (really bad) and Drums even worse but Joe doesn't let me shine on the drums, think he's scared of my skills

Who are your top five bands?

- Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Artic Monkeys, Killers and Wu Tang Clan not in that order but its a list that changes as much as the weather. I get into moods where I listen to some proper strange stuff but then go back to the classics all in the same car journey.

Who have you been listening to recently?

- Im addicted to I Found by Amber Run, Theres something just so relaxing about that song. Its powerful yet simplistic if that makes any sense

Surely, you've not been listening to one song all week?

- Well no but thats my favourite one at the moment. Another song I'd have to shoutout to is Blessings by Chance the Rapper, its just an amazing song. To be fair that whole album "Coloring Book" is in my playlist

What influences do you use when we're writing?

- Everything I listen to, I like taking bits of everything I listen to and use it to help me improve

Have you been to any gigs recently?

- I will admit I haven't been to a gig for ages by last one was Ed Sheeran a while back.

What about outside then band, do you have any hobbies or passtimes?

- Im a teacher I don't really have time for hobbies

Thanks for that Ryan, its been eye opening. I mean, my eyes were wide open when you said you can play drums...

If you have any questions for the band then send them through to our facebook/instagram page, and we'll feature them in the next Q&A. It also gives us a measure as to whether anyone is actually reading this...

Back to reality.

Over the coming week we'll be mixing Remain, and continuing with auditions for a new guitarist. There will be our weekly rehearsal and writing session, so next time we go live we will have some new material for you.

In the meantime, heres a nice clip of John from recording. We'll see you next week for some more reading material.
